I woke early hours the next morning to find his temperature much hotter. He dripped with sweat, the sheets soaked under him. Crap. I got up and managed to work out how to pour water from the side dispenser, then got him to drink a lot. “I need to try to find a doctor or something that can help ease a fever.”

“There will be some listed on the ship’s manifest,” he said. “There’re funds in an account in both our names. You’ll have access under your stat sheet now.”

I quickly checked through, and there it was, ‘Cash account.’

“I’ll be back soon, but we need some supplies if we’re holding out a few days in here.”

He nodded and pulled me to him, kissing me. “I love you,” he said.

Then he passed out.

He loved me…? Oh no. I put a hand to my heart. This really had gotten complicated very, very fast.

I covered him up. Though he burned so hot, he shivered. I had no idea what I could do for him, but I had to try.

The map flagged up with three different doctors and several emergency areas. I made my way to the nearest one. The ship started to move out of the dock; I guess. It felt weird, like I was moving, but I wasn’t. The floor vibrated, and I almost wobbled over when a large clunk reverberated around me.

A young lady came to my aid. “First time out of a large dock?” she asked.

I just nodded. Her eyes widened. “You’re in for a surprise. The viewing window is just a little further up on the left. Go see.”

I thought about it for a moment, then checked where the doctors were. I could swing by just for a moment.

“Thanks,” I said, and she left me alone.

My steps were quick, my heart only worrying for Marik, yet also for us both in general. I’d no idea the supplies we really needed but hoped telling the doctor ‘drug rehabilitation’ would help. I then saw the viewing area that the lady had mentioned, and my eyes lit up.

The station, space. I’d never seen anything like it. Huge was not the word. Planet-sized, monstrous. Everything about it. I stood for a minute, two, and just stared. Then as it started to shrink, I mentally pushed myself away and ran for the doctor’s area.

“What can I do for you, miss?” the man at the desk asked as I walked in. He indicated for me to sit, but didn’t look at me, I found it a little rude. But sat.

“I need some help with drug abuse,” I said simply.

He looked at me then. “We don’t get many in here asking that kind of question.”

“I’m sure. Can you help?” I asked.

“You don’t look like a drug user. What kind?”

I let out a sigh. “I have no idea.
